The Haramai — Day Tour Standing at 1,754 metres above the rural town of Ruatoria in the Waiapu Valley, Haramai is a one-of-a-kind experience, an in-depth journey through local history, culture, and the stories that have shaped the tribe Ngāti Porou for generations. Immerse yourself in the world of Māori back to when the demigod Maui fished up the North Island, and Maunga Hikurangi was the first point to emerge from the sea. Come face-to-face with nine larger-than-life whakairo (carvings) that stand guard at the summit.
