The Sunset Experience
From NZD$299 · Bookings essential
WATCH THE DAY END ON SACRED GROUND
Stand among nine larger-than-life Māori carvings as the sun sets over the Waiapu Valley. Kōrero, karakia, and a warm drink close out your journey to the summit.

SUnset Experience
Te Urunga-Pae — Sunset Tour offers a different way to experience the same sacred peak, arriving as the light fades over the Waiapu Valley.
Watch the light fade beside nine larger-than-life Māori carvings, sacred cultural treasures of the Ngāti Porou people. Your expert Ngāti Porou guide will take you through the story behind each carving: who they represent, what they hold, and why they stand where they stand.
As the sun dips below the Waiapu Valley and the maunga settles into evening, our guides share kōrero passed down through generations of Ngāti Porou. This is a chance to hear our history, explore our land, and see Maunga Hikurangi from an afternoon/evening perspective. Perfect for the photographers who like to have clear night sky views.
